Complicated Skin & Soft Tissue Infection (cSSTI)
C/P
- Broad variety of pathogens, frequently polymicrobial
Inves
- Clinical; culture to identify polymicrobial/resistant organisms
Mng
- Simple abscess may respond to incision and drainage alone
- Complex abscess with surrounding cellulitis requires adjuvant antibiotics
- Suspected polymicrobial infection: cover enteric gram-negative and anaerobic pathogens
Special
- Most common isolate: S. aureus (CA-MRSA increasingly common)
- One of the four SSTI categories (with diabetic foot infection, non-necrotising cellulitis, NSTI)
